For years, my husband Pat and I shared a dream: to create a quiet place where people could retreat from the noise of life and reconnect with God. We often talked about what it might look like: the land, the stillness, and the gentle breeze through the trees. It wasn’t just a dream. It was a calling we both felt deep in our souls.
However, everything shifted when Pat was diagnosed with cancer. Life became a whirlwind of doctor visits, treatments, and desperate prayers. In 2017, I lost him.
I was heartbroken. Our dream felt like it died with him. For a while, I didn’t know how to move forward, much less how to build what we had envisioned together.
Later that summer, I joined a family retreat in a little place called Rainbow, Texas. It was a time of healing. The laughter of my siblings and cousins, the shared memories, and the quiet beauty of the area gave me a breath of peace I didn’t know I needed.
Then one day, I saw a “For Sale” sign on the property next door. My heart stirred. I hadn’t thought about the dream in a long time, but in that moment, it all came rushing back. I prayed. I cried. I talked with my family. With trembling hope, I made an offer on the land.
After several conversations, the land became mine. I stood on it, alone with the Lord, and whispered, “Okay, God. I’ll do this. Let it be for Your glory.”
That moment marked the beginning of Casa de Milagros — House of Miracles.
Casa de Milagros is more than a retreat. It’s a Christian retreat center in Rainbow, Texas, built through loss, faith, healing, and grace. Every inch of this land carries the fingerprints of God’s presence. Here, people meet Him in the stillness, in the quiet, and in the beauty of creation.
